French Twist Burger

2 cups sliced onion
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
1/2 teaspoon balsamic vinegar
3/4 teaspoon dried thyme
Freshly ground black pepper
1 cup water
1 pound extra lean ground round or sirloin
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
4 onion rolls, split and toasted

Preparation Instructions:

Coat a large nonstick skillet with nonstick spray, and heat over medium-high heat. Add onions and cook, stirring often, until caramel colored, 4 to 5 minutes.

Stir in sugar, vinegar, 1/4 teaspoon thyme, pepper, and water. Reduce heat to medium, and simmer until water is absorbed and onions are tender, about 5 minutes. Transfer to a plate and keep warm.

Gently mix beef, mustard, and remaining thyme. Shape into 4 burgers. Cook burgers in same nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until browned on both sides and no longer pink in the center, about 10 minutes or until internal temperature is 155 to 160 degrees. Place burgers in toasted rolls. Top with caramelized onions. Serves 4.
