Spiced Cranberries

2 cups sugar
1/2 cup water
3 to 8 whole cloves
4 cups (12 ounces) cranberries
1/2 thin skinned orange
1/2 cup cognac or brandy
1 cinnamon stick

Preparation Instructions:

Wash cranberries. Wash and finely chop orange including rind. In a heavy saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil and boil 3 minutes without stirring. Add cloves, cinnamon stick, cranberries and orange. Cook stirring occasionally over low heat for 4 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in cognac. Let cool and remove cinnamon stick (or leave in for extra flavor). Serve with turkey or chicken.
