1 cup all purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons lard
2/3 cup (approx.) water
Preparation Instructions:
Mix together dry ingredients; cut in lard with a pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs. Sprinkle water over pastry, a little at a time, stirring with a fork until mixture forms a soft dough. Turn dough out onto a lightly floured board. Knead about 10 times. Roll out to a 1/2 inch thick circle; place on a greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes until golden. Cut into wedges; serve hot with butter. Makes 1 bannock.
