"Spiced French Toast"

AmountIngredient
1 tablespoon eachall purpose flour and granulated sugar
1 teaspoonground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon eachground allspice and nutmeg
4eggs
3/4 cupmilk
8 slicesegg bread (3/4 inch thick)
2 tablespoonsbutter
 Maple syrup

Preparation Instructions:

In bowl, stir together flour, sugar, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Add eggs and milk; beat until smooth. Place bread slices in single layer in large shallow pan. Pour egg mixture over. Let stand for 10 minutes, turning slices to cover both sides, until egg is absorbed.

Stovetop method: In large nonstick skillet over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter. Cook slices in batches, for 1 1/2 to 2 minutes per side or until golden, adding more butter as needed. Transfer to plate and keep warm while cooking remaining slices.

Oven method: Line shallow rimmed baking sheet with parchment or foil; brush with 1 tablespoon melted butter. Arrange egg soaked bread slices in single layer in pan. (May be covered and refrigerated overnight.) Bake in 400 degree oven for 10 minutes. brush tops with 1 tablespoon melted butter. Turn slices and bake for 8 to 10 minutes or until golden. Serve with maple syrup.

Per serving: 429 calories; 17 g fat; 51 g carbohydrates; 17 g protein.
