Serving Size: Makes 8 servings

AmountIngredient
Crumble Topping:
3/4 cupall purpose flour
1/2 cupbutter, softened
1/2 cuppacked brown sugar
1/3 cuppecans, coarsely chopped
1/3 cuphazelnuts, coarsely chopped
1 teaspoonground ginger
1 teaspoonbaking powder
1/4 teaspoonground nutmeg
Filling:
8medium pears, peeled, cored, chopped into 3/4" pieces
1/4 cupmaple syrup
1/4 cupcrystallized ginger, finely chopped

Preparation Instructions:

To make the topping: Place the flour in a medium bowl and rub in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until combined; set aside. To make the filling: Grease six 1 or 1 1/2 cup ramekins and place them on a large baking sheet. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine all the ingredients in a large saucepan over medium low heat. Cook, uncovered, stirring occasionally, for about 10 minutes or until the pears are softened but not mushy. Spoon the filling and any liquid into the prepared ramekins. Sprinkle with the crumble topping (a generous 1/2 cup). Bake for about 45 minutes or until the crumble is golden. Serve warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.

Note: Alternatively, to make one large crumble, grease a deep 8 cup oven proof dish. Add the pear filling and top with the crumble. Bake 55 - 60 minutes. Makes 8 servings.
