Individual Apple Tarts

Preparation Tips:1. remove 2 1/2 tablespoons flour and mix with 2 tablespoons water, forming a paste.
2. Into remaining flour and sugar, cut butter with pastry blender (or 2 knives) until mixture resembles coarse meal.
3. Stir in paste and mix into dough.
4. Roll out onto floured board. Cut into rounds, 1 inch larger than diameter of dishes. Set aside.
5. Pare, core and slice apples. combine sugar and cornstarch. Toss with apples.
6. Divide evenly among four 12 ounce custard cups (the larger size custard cup). Sprinkle with chopped nuts and grated or crumbled cheese.
7. Top with pastry. Press dough over dish to seal. Brush with milk, sprinkle with a little sugar and top with a walnut.
8. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes until golden and apples are soft.
9. Cool slightly. Makes 4 tarts.
