Chocolate Marble Pumpkin Pie

 Pastry for Single-Crust Pie
4 1/2 ounce packagecustard dessert mix
1/3 cupsugar
1 teaspoonground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoonground ginger
1/4 teaspoonground cloves
16 ounce can (2 cups)pumpkin
2/3 cupmilk
5 1/3 ounce can (2/3 cup)evaporated milk
1/2 cupsemisweet chocolate pieces
1 tablespoonshortening
1/4 cupchopped pecans, toasted

Preparation Instructions:

Prepare and roll out Pastry for Single Crust Pie. Line a 9 inch pie plate. Trim the pastry to 1/2 inch beyond the edge of the pie plate. Flute edge; prick pastry. Bake in a 450 degree oven for 10 to 12 minutes or till golden. Cool thoroughly on a wire rack.

For the filling, in a medium saucepan combine the custard mix, sugar, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Stir in pumpkin, milk, and evaporated milk. Cook and stir till bubbly; remove from heat. Cool 10 minutes. Pour half of the pumpkin mixture into the baked pastry shell. Melt together the chocolate pieces and shortening; stir into 1/2 cup of the pumpkin mixture till well combined. Carefully pour the chocolate mixture over the pumpkin mixture in pastry shell. Top with remaining pumpkin mixture. With a knife or a narrow spatula, gently swirl through layers to marble. Sprinkle with toasted chopped pecans. Cover; chill several hours or till firm. Chill to store. Makes 8 servings.
