  1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda (baking soda)

  1/2 teaspoon ground mixed spice

  1 teaspoon cream of tartar

  1/2 teaspoon salt

  1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

  1 ounce / 25 g margarine

  1 ounce / 25 g caster sugar (granulated sugar)

  1 tablespoon black treacle (molasses)

  5 tablespoons milk
