Beef and Vegetable Sauce on Spaghetti

    2 tablespoons vegetable oil

  2 cloves garlic

  1 medium onion

  2 stalks celery

  1/2 pound medium lean ground beef

  28 ounce can tomatoes

  1/3 cup tomato paste

  2 medium carrots

  Salt, to taste

  Pepper to taste

  1 teaspoon basil

  2 cups shredded cabbage

  2 tablespoons minced parsley

  350 grams Catelli spaghetti (a handful 1 1/2" in diameter)
